Prepare to embark on a wild and otherworldly journey as King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard announce their highly anticipated double LP album, PetroDragonic Apocalypse; or, Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth and the Beginning of Merciless Damnation. Set to be released on June 16, this album marks the band’s 24th opus and promises to be a full-throttle experience like no other.

Following their foray into thrash metal with 2019’s Infest The Rats’ Nest, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard embrace their gnarly lycanthrope-selves once again, taking their sound to new heights. PetroDragonic Apocalypse is not a mere continuation but a bold evolution, showcasing the band’s relentless creativity and their ability to push musical boundaries.

The album’s lead single and accompanying video, Gila Monster, offers a tantalising glimpse into the sonic universe that awaits. With its neck-snapping riffs and devilish energy, the track sets the stage for the apocalypse-themed extravaganza that awaits listeners.

Infest The Rats’ Nest was initially intended as a one-off experiment, but the band’s insatiable thirst for metal has propelled them forward. Their love for the genre and their innate ability to tap into their inner metal-heads shine through in PetroDragonic Apocalypse. It’s a full-throttle, no-holds-barred exploration into a world where darkness reigns supreme.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have once again answered the call of metal, crafting an album that promises to captivate audiences and stir mosh pits into ecstatic frenzies. Brace yourselves for the sonic onslaught of “PetroDragonic Apocalypse,” as King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard cement their place as masters of musical metamorphosis.

“When we made Rats’ Nest, it felt experimental,” says Stu Mackenzie, Gizzard King. “Like, ‘Here’s this music that some of us grew up on but we’d never had the guts or confidence to really play before, so let’s give it a go and see what happens’. And when we made that album we were like, ‘Fuck, why did it take us so long to do this?’ It’s just so much fun to play that music, and those songs work so well when we play them live. So we always had it in our minds to make another metal record.”
