Gibson has put bold new Custom Shop lacquer finishes on three of its most iconic acoustic guitars.

In 2025, Gibson Montana constructed a dedicated custom finishing booth capable of applying vibrant new finishes to its handmade instruments, and the results are now available on the J-45, the Hummingbird and the SJ-200.

Catch up on all the latest news here.

First up is the J-45 Standard in Goldtop. The best-selling Gibson acoustic of all time, the J-45 has been a staple since 1942 – earning its “Workhorse” nickname through decades of recordings and touring. The Standard delivers warm mids, tight punchy bass and impressive dynamic range, and the Goldtop finish gives one of the most familiar acoustics on the market a look that’s anything but ordinary.

The Hummingbird Standard arrives in Southwestern Turquoise, a colour that suits the guitar’s personality well. Versatile, the Hummingbird handles everything from strummed open chords to picked lead lines with equal authority, thanks to its spacious mahogany body and select Sitka spruce top. Rich, deep tones have made it a favourite across genres for decades, and the Turquoise finish makes it visually unmistakable on any stage.

Rounding out the trio is the SJ-200 Standard in Classic White. Known as the “King of the Flat-Tops,” the SJ-200 has been making sonic and visual statements since its debut in 1937 – embraced by singing cowboys, country superstars, folk and rock legends alike. The Classic White finish leans into that larger-than-life character, giving the world’s most famous acoustic guitar a look that matches its reputation.

All three models are handmade in Gibson’s Montana facility and are available in left-handed orientation, which is a welcome detail for players who’ve historically had limited access to premium acoustic options in this finish range.

For retailers and players alike, this range represents a rare chance to own a genuinely iconic Gibson acoustic in a finish that would typically require a Custom Shop order.

The iconic Gibson acoustics are available now through Australis Music Group.
