Gibson has expanded its Songwriter series with two new Recording Artist models that draw on the tonal character of its 1930s acoustics while meeting the demands of modern professional performance.
Gibson’s new Songwriter Recording Artist and Songwriter Recording Artist EC are handcrafted in Bozeman, Montana, and designed from the ground up for players who need a serious acoustic for the studio and the stage.
The Songwriter series has been around since the late 1990s, known for its square-shoulder modern dreadnought shape and its knack for blending classic Gibson character with something a little more contemporary. TWith the Recording Artist models, Gibson has looked back to move forward, taking cues from the 1936 Advanced Jumbo for the bracing and tonewood choices.

Both guitars feature thermally aged Sitka spruce tops paired with rosewood back and sides, a 25.5″ long-scale mahogany neck with a round profile, and a bound ebony fretboard with mother-of-pearl diamond eye inlays. The compound dovetail neck joint is set with hot hide glue, which Gibson has long favoured for its contribution to tonal transfer and long-term stability. Premium appointments throughout — bone nut, gold Grover open-back tuners, ebony bridge with bone saddle, TUSQ bridge pins, and a wide abalone rosette — put these firmly in professional territory. On the electronics front, both models come fitted with the L.R. Baggs HiFi system, using dual bridge plate sensors and an internal preamp to deliver natural acoustic tone with solid feedback resistance. Soundhole-mounted volume and tone controls keep things accessible without cluttering the aesthetic.
The difference between the two models comes down to one feature: the EC adds a Venetian cutaway for upper fret access, making it the natural choice for lead players or anyone who wants more range from their acoustic.
Both guitars are available in Rosewood Burst and Antique Natural finishes and ship in a Gibson hardshell case.
The Songwriter Recording Artist guitars are available now through Gibson Garage locations, authorised dealers, and Gibson.com.
