The iconic double-cutaway rocker returns to Gibson's core lineup with P-90 pickups, SlimTaper neck profile, and three classic finishes.

Welcome back to a real one.

Gibson has brought the Les Paul Special Double Cut back into its core product lineup, reviving the stripped-down rock weapon that’s been shaping sound across generations and genres since its original run. Available now in Australian stores, this is the classic design that made the model so beloved.

Catch up on all the latest news here.

The mahogany double-cutaway body hangs beautifully on a strap and gets you all the way up the rosewood fretboard without contortions. This is why the Double Cut became essential for lead players—a traditional Les Paul would make you work harder, and sometimes you just need easier access to the entire fretboard.

Gibson has fitted the neck with its comfortable SlimTaper profile, a shape that’s proven itself over decades of use. Twenty-two medium jumbo frets sit on the rosewood fretboard, which features acrylic dot inlays and binding for a clean, classic look. Up on the headstock, you’ll find smooth-turning Gibson Vintage Deluxe tuners with white buttons alongside the mother-of-pearl Gibson logo inlay.

Tuning stability comes courtesy of Vintage Deluxe tuners working in conjunction with a Graph Tech nut. At the bridge end, a simple wraparound bridge/tailpiece with two intonation adjustment screws bolts directly into the mahogany body. This straightforward hardware contributes to the excellent tone and sustain the Les Paul Special Double Cut is known for. Sometimes less really is more.

Powering the guitar is a pair of Gibson’s acclaimed P-90 Soapbar pickups, each hand-wired to individual volume and tone controls. The tone circuits use high-quality Orange Drop capacitors, an important detail when you’re looking for that classic midrange bite and snarl that P-90s are famous for. These single-coil pickups sit somewhere between the clarity of a Strat and the thickness of humbuckers, bringing a distinctly aggressive voice that has cut through countless recordings.

Three classic finishes are available: Ebony, Vintage Cherry, and TV Yellow. The Les Paul Special Double Cut represents Gibson’s return to a design that never truly left—it just took a bit of a break. For players who want a Les Paul with more attitude and handy upper-fret access, this is the one.
