As they continue to celebrate their 75th anniversary with keynote product launches in 2021, Fender have shared details of yet another limited edition collaboration, this time in the form of a sparkling Final Fantasy XIV Stratocaster.

Designed alongside famed video game developers Square Enix, the Final Fantasy XIV Fender Stratocaster is a Japanese-crafted model that pays tribute to the iconic video game series of the same name.
The guitar, which will also feature as a playable item in-game with the latest update to Final Fantasy XIV, features a distinctive all-black body with translucent blue and purple ‘crystals’, acting as a nod of the cap to the Crystals of Darkness and Light that play a prominent role within the franchise.
The body is complemented with a maple neck with a Modern-C profile, while a 9.5″ rosewood fretboard with narrow tall frets allows for bang-on bends and precise comping alike.
Three V-Mod single-coil pickups sit in their standard positions to offer an array of conventional Stratocaster tones, while a push-pull pot – dubbed the ‘limit break’ in reference to the FFXIV special ability – puts the bridge and middle pickups into series for more hard-edged, modern sounds.
Other features include a unique meteor 12th fret inlay, as well as a numbered neck-plate and case decorated with a Final Fantasy XIV logo.
Each guitar will also come with a numbered certificate of authenticity and a book with an exclusive illustration card.
Preorders for the limited edition guitar open in Japan on Tuesday May 25 with shipments starting in the latter half of 2021, while international fans (Australia included) will be able to get their hands on one some time in early 2022.
