Electro-Harmonix launches Pico Atomic Cluster glitch synthesis pedal

The compact pedal uses a unique glitch synthesis algorithm to transform instruments into everything from lo-fi rhythmic textures to ambient synth pads.

Electro-Harmonix has entered the glitch synthesis arena with the Pico Atomic Cluster Spectral Decomposer, a compact pedal that breaks down your signal into what they call “tone particles” to create otherworldly effects.

Catch up on all the latest news here.

Unlike anything else in the EHX catalogue, the Atomic Cluster uses a proprietary algorithm to reduce frequency resolution, transforming guitars, bass and other instruments into a spectrum of sounds that range from choppy lo-fi glitch and auto-arpeggio tones through to lush ambient synth pads.

The pedal’s sound-shaping capabilities centre around two main controls:

ATOMS determines how many simultaneous resonant oscillations are produced at once. When you dial it down, things get increasingly pixelated and glitchy.

SPEED adjusts the oscillation refresh rate, taking you from rhythmic, musical effects through to total chaos. Tapping the tempo functionality will give you precise control over the rate.

Rounding out the control set are VOL and BLEND knobs for output level and wet/dry mix. A MODE button switches between oscillation transition envelope shapes: SHARP delivers instant, choppy effects perfect for rhythmic textures, whilst SMOOTH builds more atmospheric, ambient sounds.

Despite its powerful processing under the hood, the Atomic Cluster maintains EHX’s commitment to pedal board friendly designs. Housed in the company’s compact Pico chassis, it won’t take up precious real estate on your board. It’s small but powerful, delivering the kind of experimental sound design that usually requires rack-mounted units or software.

The pedal ships with a standard EHX 9-volt power supply and is available now. For producers and guitarists wanting to push their sound and experiment, the Atomic Cluster offers an accessible entry point.
