Almost five years on from their last full-length release, legendary alternative act Dinosaur Jr. have returned today with ‘I Ran Away’, the first single from their twelfth studio album Sweep It Into Space.

The new album, which is set to arrive via Jagjaguwar on Friday April 23, notably features production from Kurt Vile, who also performed twelve-string guitar on the band’s new single.

According to a statement released today, Dinosaur Jr. bunkered down with Vile at frontman J Mascis’s Biquiteen Studios in Massachusetts to begin recording the new album in mid-2019.

After the pandemic interrupted the band’s recording process last March, Mascis was left to recreate some of Vile’s guitar lines on ‘I Ran Away’.

‘I was listening to a lot of Thin Lizzy, so I was trying to get some of that duelling twin lead sound’, J Mascis said of the single in a statement released today.
