Boss launch the feature-packed Nextone Special guitar amplifier

Words by Will Brewster

Dubbed as the 'premier' model in the Nextone range.

Boss have revealed the latest entry into their Nextone amplifier series with the Nextone Special, a modern solid-state combo that seeks to deliver a boutique amp experience at a cost-effective budget.

Packing a single 12″ Waza B12W speaker and two independent channels, the Nextone Special makes use of Boss’s intuitive Tube Logic technology to effectively emulate the characteristics of a tube amp. Players can choose between British and American tone stacks, and there’s even switchable power amps to let you flick between a range of classic tube circuits such as 6V6, 6L6, EL84 and EL34.

The Nextone Special also boasts an extra headroom switch on the clean channel, as well as the option to set switchable solo levels for each channel if you need a little bump in the mix. Three switchable Impulse Response cab voicings and an Air Feel control allows for hyper-realistic tonal replication, while an XLR line output also lets you easily record the Nextone using your DAW of choice.

Other sweet features include a gamut of onboard effects, including boost, delay, tremolo, and reverb, while patches can be saved and stored via the Boss Nextone Editor app.

All-in-all, it seems that the Nextone Special is set to be a pretty impressive new entry into this line, and we’re excited to see what else the Big B have got waiting in the wings for us in 2021.
