Tell us a bit about the history of Conway Custom.
From the owner, Ryan Conway:
I started Conway Custom Guitars in 2014, but my passion for guitars began when I started playing ten years earlier. Over the next four years my interest in guitars grew from how to play them to how they worked and how they were built, until in 2008 I built my first guitar for a year 12 project. Since then I have never looked back. I built several more guitars and repaired countless others over the next six years before finally deciding I had enough knowledge and experience to officially make a business out of it. Thus, Conway Custom Guitars was born. A single man operation, I work on every instrument that comes into the shop myself from start to finish.
What services does your business offer?
Conway Custom specialises in the servicing, repairing and restoration of guitars and various stringed instruments. Basically, we cover anything and everything in the realm of stringed instruments. This ranges from basic set-ups, re-wiring and replacing/upgrading faulty parts through to structural repairs, re-fretting, refinishing, vintage restorations and even one-off custom builds.Conway Custom also offers pedalboard services (layout and design, construction, wiring, custom made power and patch cables).
For a compete list of our services, including examples of my work, please visit the Conway Custom website.
Where are you based/what areas do you service?
Although based in Wynnum (Brisbane), Conway Custom has done work for clients throughout Australia (as far as Tasmania and WA). If you like what we do, it’s a simple matter of sending your instrument via courier to get the work done.
What are some projects you’ve worked on lately that you’re proud of?
I have built several prototype guitars lately with the aim of eventually starting a Conway Guitars line of instruments.
What can customers expect when they work with Conway Custom?
Nothing but high-quality work and professionalism. Being a perfectionist, I pride myself on making sure all of the work I do is of the highest standard. I will not return an instrument to a customer unless I am 100 percent satisfied it is my best work – even if it means spending extra time over what I have quoted and losing a little money.
And if a customer deems my work is ever under-par – I will gladly take it back and work on it again free of charge until they are satisfied. (Although that hasn’t happened yet!)
Is there anything else you’d like to share?
I just love what I do, and love making people happy when they get their instrument back. Working on guitars and making people happy – that’s all I’m about.
