Words by Lewis Noke Edwards

AlphaTheta’s new OMNIS-DUO is a portable all-in-one DJ system.

The OMNIS-DUO is portable because of its light weight, sleek design, wireless connectivity and up to five hours battery life, and all-in-one because it also includes XLR and RCA outputs, USB connectivity and wireless options for connection to your tracks on a PC/Mac, smartphone, or the cloud!

AlphaTheta is a newly established brand that falls under the Pioneer DJ umbrella, with products here designated to push the envelope with all that Pioneer DJ have learned after decades of products, customers and innovation.

The OMNIS-DUO is approx. 50cm by 30cm, weighing just four kgs. Sonically, it responds to everything from 20Hz to 20kHz with a signal to noise ratio of 112 dB. The built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery will last about five hours, taking three hours for a full charge. It features two analogue mic inputs, accessible via XLR & 1/4″ TRS Jack, 1/4″ TRS Jack, with analogue outputs via XLR or RCA, as well as headphone and ‘Booth’ outputs available to monitor whatever you’re mixing!

The OMNIS-DUO is built for comfort and ultimately, for playability. It’s well-weighted and light while also being robust enough to travel with, whether gigging on the road or to have handy on a vacation. The battery operation and bluetooth connectivity speak further to how portable the OMNIS-DUO is.

Bluetooth is what elevates the OMNIS-DUO, with Bluetooth Ver.5.2 onboard, allowing for connectivity to external speakers like the WAVE-EIGHT, a powerful PA speaker with in-built EQ and expansion capabilities for additional speakers and subs.

The OMNIS-DUO is the first ever all-in-one DJ system to feature an in-built bluetooth output function, but for lower latency you can connect via AlphaTheta’s SonicLink for almost zero delay between the moves you make on the OMNIS-DUO and your sound!

Outputs aside, the mixer also features Bluetooth input. Doing away with the need to compile requests, invite friends and partygoers to connect to the mixer itself and play it themselves!

On the unit, there’s Mic 1 & 2 Gain control and a Talkover toggle control if needed, as well Bluetooth pairing. The unit is largely symmetrical, with each side having three band EQ, Trim, and a Colour control that filters or adjust parameters of effects, depending which effect is selected within the effects themselves!

Continuing with the centre section, there’s a Cue/Master control, overall and master Level, as well as a Level/Depth control to blend in effects and an on/off Beat FX toggle.

Each side has Shift, Cue and Play/Pause controls, with a Tempo slider and eight pads for Hot Cues, with the option to Loop or just Playback whatever you’ve got cued up!

In use, the OMNIS-DUO is as easy as any other mixer to use, though augmented with more connectivity than most – let alone before we discuss the batteries! Power and the cables associated with that is always the challenge with parties external to houses or buildings, for example beaches, forests or even a big backyard! Power without cables is coupled with wireless audio connection, via SonicLink or bluetooth, so you can be sat mixing a DJ set without worry of a cable around for anyone to get tangled in!

The OMNIS-DUO is ringing in a new era of connectivity in the DJ world, AlphaTheta being a company focused on pushing the envelope, all on the back of decades of innovation with Pioneer DJ.

Stereo connectivity, both input and output is available with easily adjusted Gain, with a familiar layout allowing you to treat sound on either side of the mixer, blend between them with the centre console and make sure it all sounds its best as you send it out into the world, either wirelessly or via RCA or XLR connectors.

The OMNIS-DUO is a solution to remote mixing and parties, while serving equally well as a mainstay of the stage or studio, either permanently installed or a robust, road-worthy addition to your collection.

As power as any other, but lightweight enough to travel with. What’s not to love?!
