Six new Aussie tracks you need on your radar

Elizabeth Fader – ‘Encore’

You might be familiar with her work with Julia Jacklin in Phantastic Fernature, but it’s her solo work that really sees Sydney’s Elizabeth Fader in her element. She’s recently signed with Cooking Vinyl and shared a new single ‘Encore’, melding indie guitars with colourful synths and a hint of goth for good measure. We strongly recommend listening to this track on good set of speakers or headphones to hear how each layer jumps out: it looks like this could be a huge year for Elizabeth Fader, and we can’t wait to hear what else she’s got in store for us.

R U N – ‘For You’

This one’s more for the heavy crowd, but man does it rip! The new project of Australian metal veterans Lochlan Watt and Mike Deslandes, R U N ‘s debut single ‘For You’ explodes right from the get-go, drawing on elements of extreme metal, hardcore and the dense textures of post-rock to create quite a formidable first impression. The blast beats and Watt’s deathly growls really take ‘For You’ to a whole new level, and the mix is absolutely sublime – shout out to Will Putney for this one.

ORCHA – ‘Atlas’

Fusing his classical sensibilities as a violinist with a penchant for smart samples, Melbourne’s Matt Sheers has been making some major waves with his ORHCA project. His new track ‘Atlas’, produced in tandem with Luis Kennet,  shimmers and sparkles like any good dream-pop track, with the second half of the track bringing in a euphoric key change and some slick, synth-sounding strings. Bet you’ve never heard a classical instrument sound as cool as this.

BBG Smokey, Lil Jaye, Eco$ystem, Baby T – ‘Devil Persona’

Formed in the basement of Collingwood’s housing projects, 66 Records have formed their own supergroup with the release of new single ‘Devil Persona’, a track which is already making major waves both at home and abroad. Bolstered by a menacing beat and spotlighting the natural chemistry of rappers BBG Smokey, Lil Jaye, Eco$ystem and Baby T, ‘Devil Persona’ drips with integrity and raw talent. It’s easy to draw comparisons with the likes of Young Thug here, but there’s no doubting that ‘Devil Persona’ is one of the most significant local rap releases of 2020.

Bugs – ‘Can’t Get Enough’

Clocking in just under the three minute mark, the new single from Brisbane’s Bugs is as exuberant as they come, which shouldn’t come as a surprise if you’ve ever seen these guys live – they sure do love to have a good time. However, dive deeper into ‘Can’t Get Enough’, and you’ll find a pretty strong sentiment about greedy tendencies, but to be fair, it is a lot easier to cover topics this serious when you pair them with jumpy guitars and plenty of ‘woos’. It’s a certified tune, and we strongly recommend adding it to any future house party playlist.

Bee Virginia – ‘Won’t You’ (Andy Bull Remix)

After operating under the moniker Lover for several years, Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Bee Virginia stepped out and introduced her new project to the world last November with her single ‘Won’t You’: a sultry banger that grows on you with each creeping minute. To remind you just how good that debut was, she’s linked up with Sydney stalwart Andy Bull for a dancefloor-ready remix of the track, with Bull lacing the smooth nature of the original with a pumping four-to-the-floor groove that complements the talents of both artists.
