Sound Particles releases Energy Panner 2 and Brightness Panner 2

Sound Particles
Words by Mixdown staff

Sound Particles is a leading deep tech innovator in audio technology, pioneering the use of computer graphics techniques in sound.

Sound Particles today announced major updates to Energy Panner 2 and Brightness Panner 2, their dynamic panning plugins that use the characteristics of the audio signal itself to control movement — by intensity, or by brightness, pitch, or MIDI notes — with no automation lane required.

Both now add independent paths per channel, built-in mixer, virtual centre, three visualisation modes, expanded support for every major output format or the ability to create your own custom format, and run on the same modern engine that powers Beat Panner.

Catch up on all the latest news here.

Most panning tools ask you to draw every movement by hand. Energy Panner 2 and Brightness Panner 2 take a different approach: Energy Panner 2 reads the intensity of your sound and turns it directly into motion; Brightness Panner 2 does the same with frequency content (brightness, pitch or MIDI notes) — bringing life to a mix without a single keyframe.

The concept of dynamic panning has already found its way into major mixes: Hans Zimmer’s longtime mixer Alan Meyerson used Energy Panner on multiple scores, including Dune: Part Two. Learn more in Sound Particles’ webinar “Mixing Dune: Part Two OST,” available on the Sound Particles YouTube channel.

What’s New:

  • Independent Paths: every input channel gets its own path, with independent start and end points, for far more control than a single shared trajectory.
  • Built-in Mixer: per-channel output level control, right inside the plugin, no need to jump to the DAW mixer.Virtual Center: clears the signal from the centre channel and redistributes it to left and right: clean dialogue in post, open space for a lead vocal in a mix.
  • Multiple Views: Circular, Polygon, and Room views, so the plugin matches how you already think about a room or a mix.
  • Custom Format Layouts: build your own speaker layouts with customisable channel count, azimuth, elevation, and LFE placement.
  • Expanded Input/Output Support: from stereo to Dolby Atmos and all the way up to 6th order Ambisonics.
