The new open air headphones feature proprietary HXDT technology, paired with ultra-precise driver alignment for a natural sound.

Audio-Technica has released the ATH-ADX7000, a new flagship model in its ADX line that represents the brand’s True Open Air Audio approach to headphone design.

Catch up on all the latest news here.

Designed and constructed in Japan, the open air headphones combine over 60 years of transducer expertise with Audio-Technica’s proprietary High-Concentricity X (Transfer) Dynamic Transducer (HXDT) technology. This driver manufacturing process ensures exceptional precision from design through final integration, with tolerances tightened to ±0.02mm – nearly ten times more precise than conventional designs.

HXDT uses tightly controlled moulding and alignment to keep every diaphragm, baffle plate, magnet and voice coil perfectly concentric. This precision lets the diaphragm move freely and consistently, delivering faster transients, improved microdetail and cleaner, more natural sound.

The open design lets air move freely through the housing, reducing internal pressure and resonance for a clear, fatigue-free experience during long listening sessions. Custom drivers engineered for open-air performance cover the full frequency range with deep bass you’d normally expect from closed-back models, creating spacious sound without colouration.

Audio-Technica’s improved voice coil runs at 490-ohm impedance, boosting mechanical force without extra weight. Lower frequencies get more definition, dynamic range expands, and clarity stays exceptional across the spectrum.

Core Mount Technology balances acoustic impedance between front and back cavities for symmetrical diaphragm motion at any frequency. At just 275g thanks to honeycomb aluminium housings, the headphones use a magnesium die-cast frame that combines strength with vibration absorption, keeping the sound pure.

In the box are two earpad options: high-density velvet with acoustic filtering characteristics, or Alcantara for durability and luxury. Cables include a nylon-wound balanced XLR and a nylon-wound unbalanced cable with 6.3mm gold-plated stereo plug – both use Neutrik connectors and gold-tipped A2DC connectors. A compact storage case rounds out the package.
