Dawson says the song was written during a period around the time of the EU Referendum in which he’d been on the road a lot, resulting in what he describes as ‘quite a desperate song in a way’.
‘Soldier’ is the third track on Dawson’s album Peasant. The record explores themes of struggling and broken families with narratives occurring in the pre-medieval North Eastern kingdom of Bryneich from 450AD to 780AD.
