Show & Tell is where we get artists to tell us about a piece of gear that they cherish and use as a part of their live or studio setup. This month we chat to Phil Manansala, guitarist for Of Mice & Men.
What piece of equipment do you have to show us today?
My Hughes & Kettner TriAmp Mark 3.
How did you come across this particular item?
I came across a band playing H&K in 2002 and I loved their tone. Fast forward many years later, I'm lucky enough to be able to be endorsed by H&K and loving every minute.
What is it that you like about it so much?
It just sounds better than everything else. Nothing compares to the technology and design of this amp. Like I said, it just sounds better then everything else.
How do you use it and how has it shaped the way you write music?
I use the amp live on stage every night. With the writing process, I'm able to use the amp in every way from clean to dirty. It gets me to the exact tone I need every time.
Tell us a little about what you have coming up?
Right now we're finishing up an arena tour with Five Finger Death Punch and In Flames all over Europe and the UK. We're releasing a new album called Defy on January 19 followed by a USA headliner starting in February, then Download Australia.
Defy is out Friday January 19 through Rise Records/BMG. Of Mice & Men will be playing Download Festival on Saturday March 24.
