The four new finishes – Golden Mesa, Dodgem Blue, Orion Green, and Moc Sand – join the more traditional Frost, Horizon, Onyz, and Tungsten finishes. The Silver Sky was first announced in March last year, presenting an idealised version of a vintage single-coil guitar. The guitar combines both Mayer’s and Smith’s love of 1963 and 1964 vintage instruments, and had a lengthy development period.
The Silver Sky sports “acoustic” frets which are “slightly larger than vintage frets but slightly smaller (in height and width) than what is found on most PRS electrics,” and a triple set of newly designed “635JM” pickups. The guitar inverts the PRS’ normal headstock and packs a 22-fret maple neck with rosewood fretboard, bird inlays, a 25.5-inch scale length, and a 7.25-inch fretboard radius.
