METHYL ETHEL, A.B ORIGINAL LEAD J AWARD NOMINATIONS

Plus Nominations For Kirin J Callinan, Ali Barter, Paul Kelly + More

The shortlist for triple J's coveted J Awards has landed for 2017, featuring a whole bunch of deserving nominees across four hotly contended categories.

Leading the charge are Perth based psych-pop masters Methyl Ethel and politically woke hip hop ensemble A.B Original, who both picked up nods for triple J Australian Album of the Year and the Rage Australian Music Video of the Year. Other Album of the Year nominees include Gang of Youths, Ali Barter, Alex Lahey and Meg Mac, showcasing a diverse Australian music scene extremely worthy of recognition.

In addition to the triple j Album of the Year Awards, Double J and triple j Unearthed are also recognising some of the country's finest unsigned and independent acts. Industry veterans Dan Sultan, Jen Cloher and Paul Kelly are all up for Double J Artist of the Year awards, while Confidence Man, Alex the Astronaut and Stella Donnelly represent a stack of Unearthed artists up for the award.

The best of Australian music videos are also set to be recognised with the Rage Australian Music Video of the Year award; however, after releasing this beauty earlier in the year, it looks like Sydney based virtuoso Kirin J Callinan's got it in the bag with his video for 'Big Enough', featuring a cameo from Jimmy Barnes.
