The dark, synth-heavy EP shares a release date with the 30th anniversary of the iconic photograph taken by NASA’s Voyager 1 space probe, with the title of the EP harking back to the words of US astrophysicist, astronomer and cosmologist Carl Sagan (sampled on the opening track ‘Pale Blue Dot’), who wrote: “There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world… it underscores [humanity’s] responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we’ve ever known.”
Luboku reflected on Sagan’s perspective in a statement released today, saying that “You can’t help but put into perspective humanity’s insignificance when you look at that image of a tiny speck of dust. Our hopes and dreams, our loved ones and memories, failures and fuck ups as an individual and species are presented on nothing more than a tiny, pale blue dot surrounded by the enormity of the universe.”
To promote the immersive new release, Luboku is embarking on a headline tour up the East Coast this April – however, lucky punters in Adelaide can catch him debut the EP in a live setting tomorrow night with Running Touch. Check out those dates below.
