Classic Smashing Pumpkins lineup gives first live reunion performance

OG Pumpkins

The reunion of Smashing Pumpkins’ classic lineup has just taken its next step, with Billy Corgan, Jimmy Chamberlin and James Iha joining forces for their first live performance together in almost two decades.

The OG Pumpkins – minus bassist D’Arcy Wretzky – appeared on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon to treat audiences to live takes of their classic track ‘Zero’ and recent release ‘Solara’.

While the reunion is rumoured to continue and generate two new EPs, much of the conversation has revolved around the notable absence of Wretzky, who was excluded from the reunion. Both Wretzky and Corgan have publicly commented on the divide, with Corgan recently explaining the situation to Billboard.

"The simple version is I spent two years trying to rebuild my relationship, much like James and I built our relationship ... Every time I talked to her on the phone, she was absolutely lovely,” said Corgan. “When we first approached her on the business side about, ‘Well this is going to be the framework and this is what it’s going to look like,’ she said she refused.”
