In an interview with Rolling Stone regarding his art exhibition, Smith broke his silence on the matter of Frusciante rejoining the group to clear the air and tantalise fans even further, stating that “I was given strict orders for this interview: ‘DON’T TALK ABOUT THE BAND. But, yes, John is back in the band, and everyone knows that. We’re psyched. The festivals are the only shows booked. For now, we’ll mostly be concentrating on new songs and writing a new record. We’re all real excited to make new music.”
Interestingly enough, it was common knowledge that the Chili Peppers were on the brink of finishing recording new material with former guitarist, Josh Klinghoffer, who held down the band during Frusciante’s absence. Whether or not any of this material will make it onto the new LP – or surface in any way – is unknown.
