WOODIE GUITAR STAND

The Woodie is a unique accessory which will look great displaying your proudest guitar acquisition in the lounge room/pool room/rumpus room or on stage, and the best part is that it really works: the way it seems to gently grip the guitar feels very secure and sturdy. And in the delicate balancing act of form verses function, the Woodie is a winner.

WAY HUGE ELECTRONICS ANGRY TROLL

The Dunlop association and subsequent re release of the Way Huge line seems to have been a successful one so far giving those wanting that once elusive sound another chance with pedals, consulted and overseen by the original designer himself — not just approximated clones from another builder.

WASHBURN X-200 PRO E

X200ProE_550

Washburn has made some killer double-cutaway guitars over the years, from the N4 and Steve Stevens models to the X series to over-the-top creations with 36 frets. The company has never shied away from building guitars for all price points, and the X-200 PRO E comes in at substantially less than you probably expect to pay for a guitar with appointments of this nature. Let’s have a look.

WALDEN D56O ACOUSTIC GUITAR

The news is that the Walden D560 is quite the nice guitar. Whilst a pretty, no frills instrument, it has a well balanced tone with good clarity and volume.

VINTAGE VSA590 HOLLOWBODY GUITAR

Vintage VSA590 Hollowbody

for the price the VSA590 really needs a look whether you’ve got a small budget or leaning more towards the guitars on the top shelf. Vintage’s reputation has been slowly growing over the last few years and with good reason — nice guitars with usable features at a good price.

ASHDOWN 427 SMALL BLOCK HEAD, BTA 400 TUBE HEAD & USA 810 CAB

Playing through an 8x10 (affectionately known as ‘fridges’ by most people) is something every bass player should do at least once in their life! 4 x10 cabs are cool and typically more than enough volume to smash out any gig but 8 x10s really need to be heard to properly convey their tone, power and sheer size.

TAYLOR 8-STRING BARITONE

Bob Taylor summed up the appeal of the 8-string like this: “The great thing about having those extra strings in the middle is that you can play on them, you can play around them, you can accentuate them, you can de-accentuate them, you can strum them, you can fingerstyle them. And it seems like anybody that plays guitar gets on that and says ‘Oh, I know how to use this! I know just what I want to do!’ When you play it, it sort of comes naturally, how to employ what it can do. And that’s why people are excited about it: because it offers something truly new.”

TASCAM DP-008 PORTASTUDIO

The DP-008 really lives up to its name in a way that its tape-based predecessors couldn’t: it’s really portable (instead of relatively easily movable like my old 4-track), and it packs a lot of the features of an actual studio — and of course it records to CD quality, which is a lot better than recording song sketches onto your mobile phone.

SUHR BADGER 30-WATT HEAD & 1X12 CAB

To be honest you could actually get two of these for the price of some other boutique makers and languish in tone heaven — or just pay one of your mates to do the switching for you. Either way the Badger is a ripping tone machine no matter what your musical taste.
