The WA psychedelic collective have also announced local shows.
It’s been a hot minute since we’ve heard from Pond, but today, the Perth psych-rockers have returned in full force with their latest single ‘Pink Lunettes’, ushering in an exciting new era for the prolific group.
A ballistic fusion of no-wave and mid-’90s rave, ‘Pink Lunettes’ acts as a continuation of the raucous sound previously explored by the group on their covers of Madonna’s ‘Ray of Light’ and The Prodigy’s ‘Fire Starter’.
Driven by layered drum machines and acoustic breakbeats and a squelchy analogue synth sequence, ‘Pink Lunettes’ sees frontman Nick Albrook spitting out his abstract lyrics with reckless abandon before the song explodes into a wash of technicolour, tape-oscillating bliss.
“I think we managed to jitter along the neon tightrope between totally unhinged, strobing spontaneity and focused forward momentum,” Albrook said of the new single in a press statement shared today.
Additionally, Pond have also shared a music video for ‘Pink Lunettes’. Directed by the band and frequent collaborator Jamie Terry, the video sees Nick Albrook take to the microphone to deliver a spellbinding performance while shrouded in a vivid purple glow, making for a visual that’s about as acidic as the song itself. Watch it below.
To celebrate the release of the new single, Pond have announced a string of local Western Australian shows in Bunbury and Margaret River next month, with the band also set to perform two co-headline shows with Methyl Ethel at Perth’s Magnet House later in June. Check out all the dates below.
