Watch: When Marbles Make Music

WINTERGATAN MARBLE MACHINE.jpg

From start to finish it took Molin 14 months to create this sophisticated musical beast. It’s made up of approximately 3,000 parts, many of which were meticulously hand-made and purposefully crafted.

When in use, marbles are lifted, carried, dropped and flung onto pads and instruments using a series of levers, gears and pulleys, creating sounds that are both a marvel to listen to and watch unfold. Molin, meanwhile, embodies the aura of a suave compositional genius, toiling away at the central spinning wheel, executing basslines, and shifting handles to engage new instruments.

This is an old relic of an instrument created in modern times with a solid dose of skill and imagination. Its musical debut is sure to put a hop in your step.
