Why should cassette enthusiasts be left out of the art of DJing? This is a question that Jeremy Bell posed when he launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund production of his ScrubBoard. Through the campaign was not successful, you can still enjoy this demonstration video of Bell performing with the invention, which pairs a hand held tape head and a block of wood, allowing users the ability to scrub over the free playing tape.
In addition to this simple setup, a foot pedal is used to control the speed and direction of the tape. As can be seen from the video, you are able to sample a sound and immediately scratch the result. Whilst the ScrubBoard won’t be replacing any turntables in DJing setups, one of the biggest assets is the ability to sample and scratch at the same time.
