Continuing their support, Music Victoria recently announced the Good Music Neighbour initiative, through which the government will provide funds for the soundproofing of venues that host live music.
It comes hot on the heels of the Agent Of Change program, which requires anyone building within 50 metres of an existing live music venue to provide ‘noise attenuation measures’ in their development proposal.
In line with the Good Music Neighbour initiative, the government will match any funds required for soundproofing and related issues for approved proposals up to $25,000, which will hopefully help venues keep their heads above water when undertaking the expensive process.
Proposals will be taken annually, with the 2016 intake open from July 4 to July 13. Venues eligible to apply include “a food and drink premises, nightclub, function centre or residential hotel that includes live music entertainment”, as well as rehearsal studios.
On the proposal, Minister for Planning Richard Wynne said, “even small design changes can make a big difference to how we experience sound. The Good Music Neighbours program will ensure that venues maintain positive relationships with their neighbouring businesses and residents.”
