In an unprecedented agreement, Universal Music Group has teamed up with Facebook to allow UMG’s recorded and published music catalogue to be used across Facebook’s many social media platforms.
The partnership grants users the option to upload and share video content containing music from the UMG catalogue without being flagged for infringing copyright. It’s a deal that follows much speculation surrounding Facebook’s aspirations in the music industry, and is likely only a small insight into what’s in store for the company’s future.
Facebook, Instagram, and the AI-based Oculus are the current platforms available for users to freely share homemade videos featuring UMG music, with experimentations with Facebook Messenger also in the works.
