Unsurprisingly, Post Malone tops 2019’s list of most streamed artists with more than 6.5 billion streams. His LP Hollywood’s Bleeding is the second most streamed album this past year, according to Spotify’s numbers. The most streamed album of the year, WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? propelled Billie Eilish to second spot on the Spotify 12-month chart as she surpassed 6 billion streams.
Ariana Grande, Ed Sheeran and Bad Bunny follow close behind to top off the year’s most streamed artists, however, it was Camilla Cabello & Shawn Mendes’ ‘Senorita’ which was the most streamed song of the year, accounting for over 1 billion streams on its own. ‘bad guy’ from Eilish followed with 990 million streams, and Swae Lee and Post Malone’s ‘Sunflower, Grande’s ‘7 Rings’, and Lil Nas X’s ‘Old Town Road’ rounded off the list.
Australian users shook up the list a little, placing Khalid in second and swapping Ed Sheeran and Ariana Grande’s positions in the streaming spots. Our most streamed song was Post Malone’s ‘Sunflower’. Among the most streamed Aussie artists, Hilltop Hoods lead the line with 5 Seconds of Summer, Dean Lewis, Tones And I, and Sticky Fingers following behind.
As 2020 approaches, Spotify has also taken the opportunity to announce their decade-in-review data, revealing the music that has most shaped our lives over the last 10 years.
Drake recieves the title of the most-streamed artist in the last 10 years according to Spotify’s charts, with ‘One Dance’ the second most streamed song of the decade. The most streamed song falls to Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape Of You’ as he, Post Malone, Ariana Grande and Eminem follow respecetively to round out the top five most streamed artists of the decade.
