Show & Tell: Ivey

What piece of equipment do you have to show us today?

In Ivey’s current music material, we are influenced by a lot of electronic and pop music, which helps us shape our own unique style. Personally, I listen to a lot of house music whenever I can, which led me on to the plugin by Arturia, MINI V3. Plugins are definitely never as cool as analogue, but this plugin is super effective and I use it in almost every track I make.

How did you come across this particular item?

I saw the guys from RUFUS DU SOL using it in a cool way and it inspired me to use it in different ways and not restrict myself to just the super dope bass sounds, but also experiment with its pads and sequencing.

What is it that you like about it so much?

Although it does have heaps of instruments, the bass sounds are definitely my favourite, it gives that classic Moog bass touch, that you can’t really get anywhere else. To put it simple, it is super fat!

How do you use it and how has it shaped the way you write music?

It’s cool to see how it’s implemented in our music. Being mainly a pop production, it’s exciting to kind of merge the generic pop sound we love with our own touch of other influences, like house. It adds a different element that can make your sound distinguishable from others.

Tell us a little about what you have coming up?

Ivey’s year in 2020 – like most musicians – is gig-less. But we are keeping busy, releasing, writing, virtual tours and a hell of a lot of A grade content!
