As part of the competition Roland selected one Grand Prize Award, one Excellence Award, and five Incentive Awards. SONUS earned the Excellence Award with a design that resembles little of the classic piano, curving in an almost seductive pose, seemingly floating in mid air.
Other designs included Black Swan, which to the human eye, could be mistaken as a menacing motorboat outboard motor. While Amber Unleashed looks as if it was excavated from the inner echelons of a roasting volcano.
Like looking into the future of instrument design and innovation – one where piano’s embody the class of a BMW, and the distinct German engineering of a Mercedes Benz – designers have turned fantasy into reality. Mind blown!
