Rod Laver Arena and Qudos Bank Arena rank within Billboard’s top five venues in the world

The Billboard report comes after a massive year for Australian venues overall, with P!nk’s Beautiful Trauma World Tour giving venues a bulk of sell-out shows while The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Celine Dion, Katy Perry, Post Malone and Shania Twain all made their way down under as well.

The Qudos Bank Arena tops the Australian contingent, coming in fourth overall on the list with a 12-month gross of $81.1 million. The 21,000 capacity venue is welcoming the news as they celebrate their 20th anniversary, having been built for the Sydney Olympics in 2000.

Just behind in fifth is Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena, with the near 17,000 capacity stadium bringing in a gross of $66 million. Even while undergoing a four-year refurbishment, the multifaceted arena has managed to stay among the world’s best, boasting sell-outs from Vance Joy, Keith Urban, Cher, Sam Smith and 11 from P!nk. Much can be attributed to the Arena’s versatility, with multiple stage configurations that allow the room to be managed to fit each event’s requirements.

The love continues for the Brisbane Entertainment Centre as they ranked second in the under 15,000 capacity venues category. The Centre scored $40.5 million, and following P!nk’s latest pass through which took her to 32 shows at the venue since, they kindly took to naming a ladies bathroom after her.

The RAC Arena in Perth is Australia’s final representative in the report having grossed $34 million and earning a sixth-place finish.

Notably, the report has also found that venues across have amped up security measures and sustainability practices during the last year. Qudos Bank Arena has implemented water-restriction tapware, a 70kW solar array system and are currently undergoing a conversion to LED lighting. Meanwhile, the RAC Arena has introduced reusable cups to their venue and installed electric car charging stations on-site.
