In a message posted to the Riffstation website, the company shared the news that users can now download and use the software tool to improve their guitar playing for free.
“While we work with labels and publishers on a paid Riffstation service, Riffstation will no longer be available on the web or mobile devices,” the company said. “We hope to bring a similar service back in the future, but in the meantime, we’d like to offer you a free copy of Riffstation Pro desktop app, on us.”
Riffstation lets you upload any MP3 file into the software, which automatically detects chords and displays the results for guitarists to play along with. The software also allows you to slow down tempo, pitch shift, and isolate sections of a track.
