Following up on the experimental sounds of LP3 and LP4, the duo, consisting of Mike Stroud and Evan Mast, have returned to their guitar-driven sound for their latest album, Magnifique.
By combining their bedrock beats and primordial riffs featured on their first two albums and the sonic experimentation and production prowess of LP3 and LP4, Ratatat has reached a whole new level of their experimental sound.
Magnifique has been noted as their most fully realised album to date, showcasing an ‘Intro’ and ‘Outro’ track and various palette-cleansing interludes. Steering away from their typical method of starting the song creation with a driving beat, and instead using a melody to begin with, Ratatat placed a particular focus on creating a strong melodic sound for the album.
