PRS unveil 2018 SE acoustic series

Offering two new body shapes – the Angelus Cutaway and the Tonare Grand – with three different wood combinations for each, PRS claim in a press statement that the SE acoustic series aims “to offer players a wider selection of features than ever before, and no matter the model, to give musicians the perfect tool to utilize for songwriting, studio recording, or live gigging on stage.”

Featuring a solid spruce top and mahogany back and sides as well as an ebony fretboard and traditional “X” bracing, the AX20E and TX20E provide a warm, balanced tone that heavily caters towards fingerstyle players, particularly with the Tonare Grand body shape. Check it out above.

For a more modern acoustic sound, the A40E and T40E boasts a lush, full tone, constructed with ovangkol back and sides and featuring a spruce top. Resonance and volume is further enhanced through the unique hybrid “X” / classical bracing inside the guitar which allows the top to freely vibrate, resulting in an incredibly loud acoustic tone.

It’s well known that maple and spruce is a perfect sounding combination for acoustic instruments, and PRS looks set to deliver the goods with their A50E and T50E models. Pairing maple sides and back with the hybrid “X” / classical bracing, the A50E and T50E present a unique ‘three dimensional’ sound, offering a warm, organic tone with plenty of depth. Give it a listen in the demo above.

All of the above PRS SE acoustic models feature the addition of the Fishman GT1 pickup system, as well as an ebony fretboard and bridge, bone nut and saddle, and a high-quality hardshell case. We can’t wait to get our hands on some of these bad boys!

PRS Guitars are distributed in Australia via Electric Factory.
