Reviewed: Audio-Technica ATH-M60x Professional Monitor Headphones
There’s no doubt that Audio-Technica has produced some classic pairs of headphones over the last forty or so years. Many of us have our favourites and have held onto certain models for years. With the success of the ATH-M50X studio headphones, it was always going to be hard for Audio-Technica to deliver a new set of cans that could stand alongside them and shine even brighter. It is for that reason that I was just a little bit excited to be able to unbox a pair of the new ATH-M60X Professional Monitor Headphones this month. I wasted no time in plugging them in and hearing what was on offer.

Now that certain smartphone makers are moving away from wired headphones, wireless Bluetooth headphones are becoming pretty much the standard, especially as you move upward in the market. Yes, there will always be a place for wired headphones, especially in the recording sphere where latency is an issue, and in the audiophile community where only true analogue will do. But for those of us just listening to music or podcasts on the go, a great-sounding wireless headphone set is pretty much essential. Audio-Technica is no stranger to making great headphones. The ATH-ANC700BT set is among their latest product offerings and it’s packed with features for music nuts on the go.
Reviewed: Audio-Technica ATH-PRO7X Headphones
I’ve used Audio-Technica headphones on and off for the last thirty years and have seen some rather tasteful designs - and some that I would rather not remember, to tell you the truth. That said, no matter how they looked, they always sounded great, even if you did look a little like a 1930’s fighter pilot walking down the street with some of the older models. I’m always keen to try the latest offering from Audio-Technica when it comes to headphones, as I know I am usually in for a good listening experience. This month, it was the turn of the ATH-PRO7X to have a listen through, and I certainly wasn’t going to turn them down.
Sennheiser HD 25 Series Professional DJ & Studio Headphones
Few – if any – headphones have stood the test of time in both DJ booths and studios like the infamous Sennheiser HD 25 closed dynamic headphones. Over the years, they have become an industry standard for DJs, producers and engineers who require lightweight, comfortable headphones that offer an excellence in sound and the ability to operate at extremely high SPLs. A slight shift from Sennheiser recently has seen the range adjusted slightly and renamed for a more consistent understanding of what each product offers. Plus some newly designed packaging never goes astray either, so now the three-piece line-up in the HD 25 range is easy to understand and extremely affordable given what each option offers.
Audio-Technica ATH-A550Z ART Monitor Headphones
Audio-Technica’s ATH-A550Z is the no frills entry-level headset in the Z series of their ART Monitor range – aimed at the audiophile market. But I tell you what, for a sub $250 buy, they pack a punch. With a frequency response range of 5Hz-35kHz you aren’t going to be missing anything on a hi-def audio file, no matter how super human your hearing is.
Audio-Technica ATH-R70x Open-Back Reference Headphones
The ATH-R70x is Audio-Technica’s first foray into open back reference monitor headphones territory, and stands as their flagship professional headphone model — and what an entrance it is. Designed in partnership with Parisian product design specialist studio Arro, upon whipping them out of the box you’re greeted with a gorgeous balance of aesthetics and function, with distinctly premium materials.
Audio-Technica ATH-M50x Monitor Headphones
The Audio-Technica ATH-M50 model has long been a staple of the low price bracket monitor headphones, known for their no nonsense aesthetic, excellent sound and durability. The updated ATH-M50x hasn’t dared mess with the successful formula too much but there are some notable improvements.
