Prince’s official memoir slated for release this year

Written in conjunction with New Yorker journalist Dan Piepenbring, The Beautiful Ones is set to trace the tumultous life of the Purple One, all the way from the singer’s earliest memory to his legendary 2007 Superbowl half-time performance. In an interview with Variety, Prince’s literary agent Esther Newberg of ICM Partners claimed that Prince had submitted 50 handwritten pages by the time of his passing in 2016, which will feature prominently in the book.

The Beautiful Ones is set to be published by Spiegel and Grau, an imprint of Random House Publishing, with Prince claiming the publisher had “made me an offer I can’t refuse.” While there’s no set release date yet, reports imply that the memoir should hit shelves some time before Christmas – stay tuned to Mixdown for more news.

We uncover the gear behind Prince’s 1984 record Purple Rain, and delve into the origins of two of Prince’s most famous guitars here.
