After unveiling the shortlist of nominees back in October 2019, the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame has today announced which acts will be inducted to the semi-prestigious musical canon in Ohio this year.
First up, I just want to clear the ar and say that it's still a fucking disgrace that Kraftwerk haven't been inducted yet. Now I've got that out of my system, let's get stuck into it - this year's inductees include Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, The Notorious B.I.G, Whitney Houston The Doobie Brothers and glam-rock OG T. Rex. We're sure that there's many a rock dog scratching their heads at the inclusion of Biggie here, but seriously, the man was a rock star.
It's also awesome to see Depeche Mode and T. Rex get some love, and it's been a long time coming for Whitney - as Consequence of Sound points out, she's been eligible for over a decade and has been snubbed every time since.
In a statement to Rolling Stone regarding NIN's induction, Reznor, who was the keynote speaker for The Cure's induction last year, said "When I look back at how Nine Inch Nails are received, it always seems like we fall between the cracks. I don’t know if it’s a defense mechanism, but I just assumed we’d stay in that category, so I’m pleasantly surprised to see us acknowledged. It feels pretty good … I’m allowing myself, for a limited period of time, to feel good about this.”
