Oscar-winning composer John Williams is calling an end to his time working on Star Wars, announcing his plans to retire from the franchise following Episode IX.
Williams has composed the score for eight Star Wars films and has seen his work become synonymous with the 41-year-old franchise. While he is set to compose for J. J. Abrams’ 2019 film Star Wars: Episode IX, Williams confessed to California radio station KUSC that it’s likely to be his last.
“We know JJ Abrams is preparing one now that I will hopefully do next year for him,” Williams said. “I look forward it. It will round out a series of nine. That will be quite enough for me.”
