Strings usually can’t be recycled because of the metals and alloys they are made from, but with the help of global recycling organisation TerraCycle it has been made possible.
It’s only available in the US at the moment, but the program will hopefully inspire people to replicate it in countries all over the world, preventing the massive amounts of strings going to landfill, which is 1.5 million pounds per year in America alone.
The program will incentivise musos to recycle their strings, with each set recycled earning points towards new strings, picks, gear and other accessories from D’Addario. “In many ways, this program speaks to D’Addario’s commitment, not only to its loyal players and social responsibility, but also to its mission of building an ongoing, self-perpetuating cycle of music,” says CEO Jim D’Addario.
