Instead of using your figers or a pick, the Kickstarter launched Guitar Triller is designed to attack the strings differently, evoking a whole new spectrum of sound and opening the doors for new playing techniques. Essentially, it’s a modern striking hammer that can be used to play guitar or bass in three different positions (lead, chord and pick).
The lead position, for example, is said to allow the striking of one of two strings at a time, or alternatively can arpeggiate multiple strings, and is used for harping arpeggios, harmony trilling, rapid single-string bouncing and single note stomping.
The Guitar Triller has been manufactured with ergonomics, string tension and guitar mechanics all in mind. The final product weighs in at 18g, and is composed of a lead hammer, grip, picking tip, tapping surface and chord ridge.
Speaking on its use, the product’s makers write, “Most guitarists find it easy to produce basic trills, tremolos, and harmonic effects with the Guitar Triller after just a few minutes. However, really mastering the techniques — and letting the new textures permeate your creative process — will take some time.” It represents a whole new world of possibilities, and an exciting new challenge for musos.
