Countdown returns to soundtrack NYE 2017

Reminisce With Live Performances

The lasting presence of Countdown within the Australian music landscape continues with the news that the ABC will be reliving some classic Countdown tunes this New Year’s Eve.

Thanks to a collaboration between the ABC, the Sydney Opera House, and the City of Sydney, Countdown Live NYE 2017 will bridge the hours between this year and the next with live performances celebrating the songs of the beloved programme.

Jimmy Barnes, Phil Jamieson, Marcia Hines, Kate Ceberano, Casey Donovan, Montaigne, and more will feature on the night to reminisce with their own renditions of some of Countdown’s greatest musical moments.

Countdown ran from 1974 to 1987 as an Australian music television show hosted by Ian “Molly” Meldrum. The programme is responsible for promoting music to Australia by a whole range of artists, from Madonna and Blondie to the homegrown talent of AC/DC and INXS.

Countdown Live NYE 2017 will air on the ABC from 8:35pm on Sunday December 31.
