Channel Tres delivers the goods on new single ‘Weedman’

The first track to be released on his newly minted label Art For Their Good, ‘Weedman’ takes the G-Funk formula and adds Channel Tres’ signature steeze on top, making for an irresistibly groovy track to roll up and out to. It’s a smokers anthem at heart, but it definitely holds a deeper meaning, with Channel Tres explaining the inspiration behind the track in a press statement – “I don’t like to come off preachy to people, but it’s personal too. It’s a coy examination of what it’s like to be a black man in America in a time when weed continues to be normalised and decriminalised, but the people who once sold it are still suffering legal consequences in prison.”

At any rate, it’s a party track with a political edge, but those slamming 808s and reversed hi-hats (courtesy of producer DJ Quik) really do take it to another level. Suss it below.

Until recently, Channel Tres was expected to visit Australia in May for a run of solo shows and as part of the Groovin The Moo tour. He also visited the country last year to perform at Splendour In The Grass and support Childish Gambino on his stadium tour – revisit our Splendour recap here.

‘Weedman’, the new single from Channel Tres, is out now.
