Bicep return with new track 'Atlas'

Out Now Via Ninja Tune

UK electronic duo Bicep have returned with their first new track since 2018's Rain EP.

Driven by a jittery garage-inflected groove, 'Atlas' is drenched in woozy synths and deep sub-bass, with a very Bicep-like processed vocal sample dipping in and out over the course of the track for maximum effect. In a statement shared today, the duo, consisting of Andrew Ferguson and Matt McBriar, presented the track as an escape from the clusterfuck of today, saying that “‘Atlas’ was our attempt at summing up some of the euphoric moments we experienced on that tour across those two years. It feels like those moments are very far away for all of us right now, but we hope this serves as some form of distraction amidst all this chaos.”

Ferguson and McBriar have been teasing this one in their DJ sets for a few months now, so it's very cool to finally see it get an official release. Check it out below.

Bicep also discussed the creative process behind 'Atlas' in a statement released today, attributing the dynamic nature of their live sets towards the ebb and flow of the track. "What we enjoyed most from playing tracks live is how flexible it was," they said. "For instance how an element from a track could be interpreted in many different ways and not be reliant on the rest of the original tune. Having the songs broken down in this way means we can really perform them in a drastically different way, based on the setting”.

The UK duo's last full-length LP, Bicep, was released back in 2017. Since then, the band have been relentlessly touring in support of the project with both DJ sets and live shows, visiting Australia to headline Let Them Eat Cake early last year.

'Atlas', the new single from Bicep, is out now via Ninja Tune - preorder the 12" single here.
