After debuting new material with last month's Blood Orange assisted 'We Will Always Love You', Australian plunderphonic legends The Avalanches have shared 'Running Red Lights', the second single from their forthcoming third LP.
The new track features Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo on lead vocal duties, and features Pink Siifu rapping lyrics from David Berman's Purple Mountain's track 'Darkness and Cold'. Berman, who passed away last year, previously collaborated with The Avalanches on their Wildflower cut 'Saturday Night Inside Out'.
'Running Red Lights' is also accompanied by a new video, dedicated to Berman and directed by Greg Brunkalla, who said in a statment “This was the 2nd video I did with the Avalanches, but the first time I actually met Robbie [Chater] and Tony [Di Blasi] in person. For ‘Running Red Lights’ they asked if I could include a few key elements–like neon, a psychic and have it take place in L.A. Oh and they wanted a little heartbreak, a theme that also ran through 'Because I'm Me'. I had a great time collaborating with them in L.A. When creating music videos, it’s always best to be able to have access to the musicians along the way.”
