Arctic Monkeys new LP smashes vinyl sales record

Despite all the fuss, it looks like Arctic Monkeys have done alright in the sales game, demolishing a 25 year vinyl sales record in its first week on the charts. Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino is now the fastest selling vinyl record of the last 25 years in the UK with 24,500 units sold in its first week, surpassing previous record holder and Manchester icon Liam Gallagher, who sold 16,000 copies of his solo debut As You Were last year.

While Alex Turner and the gang are no strangers to breaking sales records – their seminal debut Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not became the fastest selling debut in British music history, shifting over 360,000 units in its first week – Tranquility Base‘s record is certainly nothing to be sneezed at, given that the album received minimal promotion leading up to its release and featured no lead singles. Love it or hate it, you can’t deny that Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino has definitely got people talking about rock music again – and if that means people are buying records again, we’re totally here for it.
