The event, which is to be held on April 5 at Sydney’s Carriageworks, will celebrate excellence in contemporary music, awarding songwriters and publishers for outstanding achievements across 14 different categories.

This year’s heralded Song of the Year category boasts a distinguished field featuring Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker (‘Let it Happen’), Courtney Barnett (‘Pedestrian at Best’), Birds of Tokyo (‘Anchor’), C.W. Stoneking (‘The Zombie’), and the aforementioned Jarryd James with his track ‘Do You Remember’. Of the awards on offer it is the only one that will be voted on and decided by APRA’s 87, 000 members.

Songwriters with multiple nominations include AC/DC, Birds of Tokyo, Phil Barton, Colin Buchanan, Hilltop Hoods, Vance Joy, Lee Kernaghan, Joel Little, Garth Porter and Peking Duck.

In a new development for the award ceremony APRA AMCOS has introduced the Overseas Recognition Award, which aims to highlight the achievements of members based overseas. The five finalists for the inaugural award – selected by the APRA AMCOS Board and a specialist advisory group, and covering all genres – are Phil Barton, Sam Dixon, Kylie Sackley, Josef Salvat and VASSY.

Hosting the night will once again be RocKwiz co-creator, Brian Nankervis, with Musical Director Robert Conley responsible for curating the evening’s live performances.
