The 2020 Grammy Award Nominees have been announced

Lizzo’s incredible year has seen her nominated in a year-leading 8 categories, including the big four of record of the year, song of the year, album of the year and best new artist. ‘Truth Hurts’, nominated for best song, was granted eligibility by the Recording Academy despite its release coming in 2017 due to the song never being submitted for consideration in the year of its release and because it features on the deluxe version of Cuz I Love You.

Joining Lizzo in the big four categories is Billie Eilish, who, at 17, is the youngest ever artist to be nominated in the Grammy’s most prestigious quartet. Her total haul of six nominations takes her to equal second on the nominations list, while her brother and collaborator Finneas also received three nominations.

Lil Nas X also nabbed six nominations, with the bulk recognising his hit Old Town Road which broke the US chart record with 19 consecutive weeks at No.1, outlasting Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s 1996 hit ‘One Sweet Day’. None of Lizzo, Eilish or Lil Nas X have ever received Grammy nominations before.

There was further love for Ariana Grande (five nominations), Beyoncé (four nominations), Lana Del Rey (two nominations), Thom Yorke (three nominations), Bon Iver (four nominations) and Australians Flume and RÜFÜS DU SOL in the Grammy nominations. However, there were surprising snubs of Halsey, who had her single ‘Without Me’ go five-times-platinum and spend 29 weeks in the US Top 10, and Sam Smith, despite ‘Dancing With A Stranger’ dropping this year.

Taylor Swift must contend with just the single big category nomination, being song of the year for ‘Lover’. And Ed Sheeran only got one nom, that being in the pop vocal album category. Check out the full list of nominees below.
