The new track sees the band abandon the pop sheen they’ve been known for in recent years for a heavy, early ’90s alternative rock aesthetic, driven by rollicking drums and clanging, dissonant guitars. Frontman Matty Healy’s vocal performance is certainly a highlight of the track, delivering an impassioned, gritty mantra exploring the apathy of the modern age. It might take a while to grow on you, but it’s definitely far from the band’s worst works – give it a listen below.
The 1975 are currently gearing up to roll out their fifth full-length effort, Notes On A Conditional Form, which the band have been working on over the course of touring behind their last effort A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships. The band recently released the opening track of the record, ‘The 1975’, which features dialogue from climate change activist Greta Thunberg. The pop iconoclasts are also set to tour Australia next month with support from Dirty Hit labelmate No Rome.
