Although she does not play on the recording, drummer Georgia Maggie (Girl Crazy) has recently joined singer and guitarist Grace Kindellan and bassist Jenny Mckechnie (Cable Ties) in the band, and will help launch the single at Wetfest.

The event will take place at The Tote in Melbourne on Saturday February 4 and features an all female/GNC/trans lineup. Explaining the single’s inspiration, the band expressed frustration at the gender imbalance and sexism they have frequently experienced whilst performing.

“(It was) written after the last gig we played as the token ‘girl band’ on an all-male line-up,” wrote the band in their press release. “We’d been booked to play first – before an all-male band that was only playing their first gig. It was the final straw. We stopped saying yes to all-male line-ups and instead started worked on being part of a strong community of women, GNC and trans musicians who support and inspire us.”

‘Can’t Take It Anymore’ by Wet Lips is out independently on Wednesday January 18. Wetfest III is on at The Tote in Melbourne on Saturday February 4, tickets are available through the venue.
