Spotify unveils Year In Music list for 2017

Ed Sheeran’s globe conquering third LP Divide has taken out the title as the most streamed album both in Australia and worldwide, with his single ‘Shape of You’ also nabbing the top spot as most streamed song of all time with 1.4 billion streams. The UK singer-songwriter is closely trailed by Canadian superstars Drake and The Weeknd, with Kendrick Lamar and The Chainsmokers also high up on the list of most streamed artists.

Locally, Flume and Sia are amongst the most streamed Australian artists of the year, with Starley’s ‘Call On Me (Ryan Riback Extended Remix)’ taking the cake as the most streamed Australian song of 2017, followed closely by PNAU’s ‘Chameleon’ and Dean Lewis’ ‘Waves’.

In other news, there’s been a massive surge for hip hop in 2017, with Spotify reporting a considerable 74% increase in the genre’s popularity around the world. Check out the full year in review here
