The music video, directed yet again by Guy Franklin, visually embodies the dark, emotional nature of the song itself. Montaigne explains that ‘the song was conceived in the throes of a dying relationship, with the knife twisted deeper by other traumas, and I wanted to visually convey both the devastation and empowerment I felt from corrupting my relationship in the way I did’.
The song itself promises great things from Montaigne’s debut album. Quirky, percussion heavy and interlaced with burst of brass, her unique vocals have become ever more commanding. ‘In The Dark’ proves that the young musician is not afraid to be creatively ambitious.
